Congratulations to Professor Lauren Williams from the School of Allied Health Sciences, announced as a Fellow of the Dietitians Association of Australia (FDAA).

Fellow of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) is both a credential and an award which recognises high profile and proactive leaders who are experts in their field both nationally and internationally.

Lauren is the 12th person ever to be awarded Fellow of DAA status. She has made significant contributions to the dietetics profession at a sustained high level over many years, both within and external to University community, having been a Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics for the past six years. She has made outstanding contribution to:

  • the Australian community through her nutrition and dietetics practice, in the area of community and public health nutrition, especially in the child care and veteran communities;
  • the dietetic workforce through the direct education and program leadership of 24 cohorts of graduates willing to work in rural as well as metropolitan areas;
  • the development of academic dietetics in Australia across the past quarter century through encouraging a scholarly approach to teaching and learning and mentoring colleagues;
  • the promotion of social science perspectives within dietetic education in Australia and internationally through curriculum development and the leading international text – A Sociology of Food and Nutrition: The Social Appetite;
  • The research field of nutrition and dietetics directly through publications and through the successful supervision of research higher degree candidates and the assessment of PhD theses;
  • DAA through 30 years of DAA membership and significant service including Vice President, Board director, Committee chairs, Associate Editor of the Journal, Nutrition and Dietetics, and a member of the Australia Dietetic Council, as well as mentoring provisional APDs and APDs to apply for Advanced APD status.
