Why is this study being conducted?

The purpose of this research project is to collect information on infection and reinfection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct). You will receive testing for chlamydia and other sexually transmitted infections (STI). Your participation in this study may help us to better understand the need for a chlamydia vaccine and could help others with chlamydia in the future.

Who is eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are aged between 18 – 29 years
  • Have had a new sexual partner within the last 6 months, or more than 1 current sexual partner, or a partner with a known STI, or inconsistent condom use

Applicants who express interest in participating in this study will be reviewed and contacted as other requirement criteria must also be met.

All information will be kept strictly confidential.

What happens during the study?

  • Trial duration will be up to 7 months and participants will have about 1-7 trial visits.
  • Trial site visits will occur at the Griffith University Clinical Trial Unit on the Gold Coast.
  • Participants will have 1-6 scheduled phone calls.
  • This is an observational trial and no potential treatments or medications are being tested.

Participation in this study is completely voluntary, and participants can decide to withdraw at any time.

Eligible participants will be reimbursed for their time and travel associated with each study visit.
