Measurement of zinc pyrithione (ZPT) in human serum and urine (GU Ref no: 2019/640)

This study aims to investigate the levels of an antimicrobial agent used in dandruff shampoo (ZPT) in the blood stream following topical application for three consecutive days.

Type of volunteers needed

Men and women over the age of 18.

Potential participants must:

  • Not have used anti-dandruff products or any products containing zinc pyrithione (ZPT) within the last 12 months
  • Not be currently taking antibiotics or antiparasitic medication
  • Not be pregnant
  • Not currently be involved in a trial

What would I be asked to do? How much time would it take?

Potential participants will be screened for eligibility using the above criteria. Eligible participants will be asked to attend a 30-minute appointment on a Monday at the Griffith University Clinical Trial Unit on the Gold Coast Campus where they will provide a blood and urine sample and be given a bottle of anti-dandruff shampoo. You do not need to have dandruff to participate. Participants will need to wash their hair twice daily for the next three days. Participants will be asked to come back two days (Wednesday), three days (Thursday), four days (Friday) and ten days (following Wednesday) after their first appointment to provide additional blood and urine samples.
