We are delighted to announce that Professor David Crompton OAM, Director of the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention, has just been awarded the prestigious Margaret Tobin Award at the recent Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) ceremony.
Named in honour of the late Dr Margaret Tobin, this award is made to the RANZCP Fellow who has made the most significant contribution to administrative psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand over the preceding five years.
On receiving the award, Prof David Crompton said it is a tremendous honour to receive the Margaret Tobin Award, but that “it is a result of a fantastic team effort”.
A range of awards were presented to Fellows, trainees and individuals to acknowledge their outstanding achievements and contributions to psychiatry, the community and the College, and to recognise excellence in psychiatric research and training. Awards were also given to encourage new and emerging researchers.
Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention
The primary aim of the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention (AISRAP) is to promote high-quality research, clinical practice and education for the prevention of suicidal behaviour in Australia. AISRAP was established to advance research, both basic and applied, in suicide and suicide prevention. It does this by securing national competitive research funding to pursue projects of significance to the research community and by offering a consulting service to government and community agencies and organisations committed to suicide prevention. Its staff publish in high quality peer-reviewed journals, present at national and international conferences, and prepare reports on projects designed to meet clients’ needs.
